Did We Waste Time Building Mansions? – Money Is A Defense
Did We Waste Time Building Mansions?

Mansions here mansions there mansions mansions everywhere. I am one of those people that really appreciate well-made and built products no matter what they are. As a once upon a time aspiring design student I just have a fondness for well designed well made high-quality stuff. This is not because of the way it makes me feel or about what others may think of me if I had my fill of these often times high priced luxury items like a lot of people who lust after fancy houses and cars. It really comes from a place of true appreciation of the thoughtfulness, time, and skill that it takes to produce the best of anything over and over again. I mean from cars, clothes, and jewelry to electronics and so it's no a mystery that I would really love well-constructed houses.

Jesus Christ said this: "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2 kjv

Now, why would Jesus say such a thing? What do mansions have to do with what was going on at that time which was His soon coming crucifixion? Jesus is the Son of God knew the hearts of men. He would always scan their hearts and address their deepest desires, wants and needs. This was one of those times. Just like when He ascended up to heaven He scanned their hearts and saw what they desired the most which was power and He assured them that the one who would come after Him would endow them with the power they needed.

"Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” Luke 2:48 kjv

The commodity of time. Time is probably the most precious commodity in the world. Especially where the Kingdom for Heaven is concerned. Time is something that once it is spent you can never get that moment back. Although the Bible teaches us to redeem the time which means to buy it back because the days are evil we still can never buy back the first chance we had to do this or to do that. Know this we must place proper value on our time and therefore on our lives. When we waste or kill time we reduce its ability to give us the fullness of what we need and want. Have you ever heard someone say "I wish I would have known then what I know now? This means I wiser but now I have less time to enjoy being wiser. Or, I would not have had to go through what I went through had I known what I know now. This means I would have enjoyed having power over my circumstances.

When we use our time here on earth to pursue what the world is pursing we are wasting time. The pursuit of what has already been promised to me on the other side is the grossest waste of time in my opinion. Why should I kill myself working day and night for a mansion when Jesus Christ already promised me one in heaven. Wouldnt that time have been better spent on developing my walk with him and learning following the Holy Spirit step by step. Would I not also be putting myself in danger of the plight of the rich man being unable to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with such a purchase.

Please do not get me wrong I love well-built homes just like the next person but I refuse to covet them. Or waste any time chasing after one that could never match the one I have yet to obtain in the next life. For we as Christians are to be eternal minded. So whether you live in a mansion or not fret not because if you are in Christ Jesus you have one waiting on your in our eternal home.

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2 kjv
