What is GREED and what do we need to know about it? Google says it is an "intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food." I tend to agree with this definition on a surface level and here is why. Greed is a very complex animal but very simple at the same time. Its tentacles reach all around the globe. Greed can also be described as really wanting more than you need. The strong desire for excess. The very thing that was stripe from the hearts for the first-century church when they received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. They instantly no longer consider anything they possed their own and began to give away their excess material possessions.
"And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things common. Acts 4:32 kjv
What starts out as a simple desire for something can morph into a full-blown catastrophe that can destroy your entire life. All that has to happen is the spirit of mammon starts mixing his favorite elixir and delivering it to you intravenously at just the right time. Usually at a point in a person's life when their relationships have all broken down or been revealed to you as surface and fake as a three dollar bill. You feel had and unloved without anyone or thing to hold on to. Then comes mammon singing lets make a deal. He says to you drink this potion of intense selfish desire and you will never need anyone else again in your lifetime. What he doesn't tell you is that you won't need anyone else but him again. That's when it all starts to go downhill. Mammon then convinces you that he is the only one who can give you all that your heart can desire ever long for and more. Whatever you can think of can be yours and all you have to do is give in and make mammon your master. Love is strong but greed is stronger is his mantra.
"For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world." 1 John 2:16 KJV
There is only one thing you must feed it all day every day. Every thought must contain a deep desire to have everything you see that others are enjoying. After all its not just about fulfilling your personal lust but making others envious of your abilities to have what they have and more. A bigger house, and a faster car. More beautiful clothes and bigger diamonds. A more attractive wife or husband and handsome children. Greed never has enough and its never satisfied.
What I have found is that the topics and subjects they are the most harmful to our society are the least talked about. The least discuss and the most underfunded. We live in a world today where people no longer want to tolerate hearing about the pitfalls of life. what they need to stay away from and that's probably because of our sinful love for things such as murder. We know its wrong and a horrible act but with can't stop enjoying watching it in every television show and movie. Greed is no different. It is destroying our world but it is glossed over at best as a problem and glorified in every song and TV commercial. It is time we reversed this trend and get back to calling good good and bad bad.
Ultimately greed will destroy your life and all of your relationships. If left uncheck mammon will push you to the point of theft where you will have to start stealing to satisfy your greed. That is his goal. If you are a tither then greed is there to get you to rob God. Don't let this happen to you please reach out to me for help.
